Hull Youth Support Trust

Hull Youth Support Trust provides young, economically disadvantaged entrepreneurs with subsidised office space for a two year period so they can start and grow their business. The charity provides dedicated one-to-one business advice, training and mentoring to ensure that the young people they work with have the fundamental skills they need to succeed in business. It’s an approach that works – 80% of the businesses they support are still in existence after two years.

When the charity applied to the Foundation it was generating 40% of its revenue from rental income and had a sensible business plan that projected steady growth. The Trustees have long supported practical projects that enable people to help themselves and, where relevant, charities that generate income from their services to help aid their sustainability. The Trustees made a two-year grant to help underpin Hull Youth Support Trust’s core costs whilst the charity built its earned income potential.

“The support from Garfield Weston Foundation has been instrumental in our success over the first three years of our existence. They have provided us with core funding which has given us the opportunity to work with a number of other funders in a matched capacity. The reporting into the Foundation is very straight forward.”
