The Board’s REConnecting Lincolnshire project arose in response to a growing number of concerns raised by local schools regarding Islamophobia amongst young people, their families and the wider community. Building on a successful pilot, a two-year programme of creativity and community engagement will work with 11-13 year olds and their schools to create plays around friendship, discrimination and understanding. The Board of Education is working in partnership with a local theatre company, three local mosques, the local university and 16 participating schools. The Foundation’s Trustees value work that encourages social cohesion and were happy to make a grant in support of the project.

“The generous grant from Garfield Weston Foundation will ensure that we have a real opportunity to support children and young people in our region to confidently challenge misunderstanding and fear of different religions, cultures and worldviews.” Gillian Georgiou, Diocesan RE Adviser and REConnecting Lincolnshire Project Leader
