Did you know?

In 1958 Garfield Weston established the Foundation with 80% of his wealth. For 60 years the Trustees of the Garfield Weston Foundation have supported charities doing great work across the UK. See below to learn more about the Foundation and the Weston Family.

Long Term

  • In 2018 the Foundation will donate its £1billionth
  • Over 40,000 separate grants have been made since 1958
  • The Foundation was established so that giving could grow over time – over £500million in the past ten years alone
  • The endowment remains as shares in the family business
  • The growth of the family business has enabled donations to grow – over £60million a year

The Weston Family

  • In the 1950s and 60s, the Weston family donated their home to the Salvation Army
  • Garfield Weston was MP for Macclesfield during World War II and donated £100,000 to pay for 16 spitfires in 1940
  • Trustees are direct descendants of the Founder
  • Sophia Mason (nee Weston) Trustee and granddaughter of the Founder, devotes two days a week to the Foundation
  • Guy Weston succeeded his father Garry as Chairman in 2002. Guy also Chairs the family business which continues to grow
